Manitoba Moose News Release

AS OF LATE:

After a successful month of February that saw the Moose go 6-5-1-1, March has gotten off to a tough start for Manitoba. So far this month the Moose are 2-6-0-0, but are coming off a series split against the Lake Erie Monsters this past Friday and Saturday. Manitoba's loss Saturday to Lake Erie combined with a win by the San Jose Barracuda later that night officially eliminated the Moose from playoff contention this season.

CALL TO THE SHOW:

In the last two-plus weeks the Moose have seen several key pieces make their way up to the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets. JC Lipon (Mar. 4), Josh Morrissey (Mar. 6/now returned), Scott Kosmachuk (Mar. 8), Julian Melchiori (Mar. 12/now returned), Nic Petan (Mar. 17), and Chase De Leo (Mar. 20) have all played games with the big club during this stretch. Of the players who are still up with the Jets, Lipon, Kosmachuk, Petan, and De Leo, make up four of the top six scorers on the Moose this season.

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT:

Dan DeSalvo has been off to a great start to his AHL career. He was signed by the Moose to a professional tryout agreement on March 9th. He started his AHL career with a four game point streak with two goals and two assists. He was only held pointless this past Saturday against Lake Erie as the Moose were shutout. He was the Tulsa Oilers (ECHL) leading scorer at the time of being signed to a professional tryout agreement by the Moose.

CAREER FIRST:

Rookie forward Jimmy Lodge recorded his first career AHL point with an assist on the Brenden Kichton goal on Friday night. He didn't waste any time in registering his second career point with another assist a period later on Darren Kramer's third period goal. Lodge was recalled from a stint with the Tulsa Oilers back on Feb. 26. He will be looking to build on the success he had in the ECHL which saw him score a goal and seven assists for eight points in 13 games.

NICE START:

Forward Chase De Leo made his NHL debut on Sunday with the Winnipeg Jets as they took on the Anaheim Ducks. De Leo impressed in his 10:03 of ice-time earning a plus-one rating. It was De Leo's third game in as many days as he played both Friday and Saturday with the Moose in Cleveland. De Leo was Manitoba's leading scorer at the time of his call-up with 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points this season.

MOOSE EARN SPLIT IN CLEVELAND

The Moose took on one of the AHL Central Division's top teams, the Lake Erie Monsters this past week. The games were near mirror images of each other but for the opposite team.

Friday, Mar. 18, 2016: Manitoba 4 vs. Lake Erie 0

The Moose had a complete team effort on Friday night against the Monsters. Manitoba had goals from Dan DeSalvo, Brenden Kichton, Darren Kramer and Julian Melchori, who scored shorthanded into an empty net, to secure the victory. It was the second straight game that the Moose shutout the Monsters dating back to their last meeting on Jan. 13. Forward Jimmy Lodge picked up not only his first career AHL point but his first two as he assisted on both Kichton and Kramer's goals. Connor Hellebuyck was spectacular in the game as he made 36 saves to pick up the shutout.
