
Manchester Torches Lowell To Move Into First Place

LOWELL, MA - The Manchester Monarchs took control of first place in the Atlantic Division with a 3-1 victory over the Lowell Devils in front of 3,895 fans at the Tsongas Arena on Wednesday night.
Manchester (16-10-6-1) is in first place in the Atlantic Division with 39 points. Lowell (16-14-2-1) is in third place in the Atlantic Division with 35 points.
Lowell scored first, followed by three unanswered tallies by the Monarchs. Right wing Aaron Voros scored his fourth goal of the season at 12:57 of the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. While on the power play, Lowell cycled the puck from defenseman Olli Malmivaara to right wing Barry Tallackson. Voros picked up the puck and finished off the play by putting it past Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera.
Devils left wing Ryan J. Murphy was awarded a penalty shot at 3:20 of the second period but was denied by LaBarbera.
Right wing Mike Hoffman collected his fifth goal of the season at 5:28 of the second period to even the score at 1-1. Center Patrick O'Sullivan carried the puck down the left wing and behind the net eyeing the perfect pass. O'Sullivan handed the puck off to Monarchs right wing Ryan C. Murphy who sent it to the net. Hoffman stood on the doorstep and jammed the puck past Devils goaltender Frank Doyle.
Defenseman T.J. Kemp gave Manchester the lead at 5:57 of the third period when he scored his third goal of the season. O'Sullivan sent a pass through the crease and found Kemp by the left post. The rookie defenseman one-timed the pass to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead. Right wing John Zeiler earned an assist on the Monarchs second goal of the night.
Monarchs left wing Jeff Giuliano scored the insurance goal at 9:27 of the final stanza. Right wing Konstantin Pushkarev carried the puck through the Devils zone. Pushkarev fed the puck to Giuliano in the left face-off circle for the one-timer that snuck through Doyle's legs. Center Matt Ryan collected an assist on Giuliano's third tally of the season.
LaBarbera earned his 15th victory of the season with 28 saves. Doyle took the loss stopping 35 shots.
Manchester went 0-for-6 on the power play. Lowell was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
