
Mammoth trip ends tonight, Royals back home Thursday

OMAHA â The Omaha Royals four-city, 16-game trip, in as many days, wraps up tonight with a 7:05 p.m. game at Oklahoma. Following an off day on Wednesday, the Royals will open a brief, three-game home stand Thursday night at Rosenblatt Stadium. In addition to posting seven wins so far, here are a few other tidbits from the Royals tour to Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans and Oklahoma City:
- Each person on the trip will log 1,602 air miles and 600 road miles. At 2,202 miles per person, multiplied by the 31 players, coaches and team personnel on the trek, it adds up to a whopping total of 68,262 miles. - The team doled out approximately $11,550 in meal money to sustain the 31-person crew for almost two-and-a-half weeks.
- The Omaha Royals boosted the hotel industry in the four cities visited, occupying around 320 hotel rooms at an approximate cost of $18,925.
THE UPCOMING HOMESTAND: is a three-game series with Omaha's long-time rivals, the Iowa Cubs, who are leading the Pacific Coast League's Central Division.
Thursday, July 1, 7:05 p.m.: is "Thirsty ? Thursday", with 1/2-price drinks, plus the 1st 1,000 fans receive Harry Carray glasses, courtesy of Miller Lite, Lamar Outdoor and Z-92.
Friday, July 2, 7:05 p.m.: enjoy post-game fireworks, presented by Bellevue University, KGOR and Cox Communications.
Saturday, July 3, 6:05 p.m.: the 20th consecutive Omaha World-Herald Fireworks Extravaganza, co-sponsored by the Omaha Royals and the City of Omaha. Gates to Rosenblatt open at 4 p.m. and the 1st 5,000 kids will receive glow ropes courtesy of the Omaha World-Herald, plus Oriental Trading Company will give away thousands of other prizes. The fun begins at 3 p.m. with the UMB Bank Family Festival, open to the public with a game ticket. Local magician Keith West will perform at 3 p.m. and the Omaha band The Beatniks are in concert at 5 p.m.
The choreographed, 28-minute fireworks display will be simulcast on KLTQ Lite 101.9 and ten lucky fans will get the chance to win a trip for four to a Disney location, courtesy of the radio station.
Buses will transport fans from the Omaha Civic Auditorium at 18th Street and Capitol Avenue from 3:45 to 7 p.m. and will return after the fireworks. Free parking is available at Omaha Park 5 and all City of Omaha surface lots near the Civic Auditorium. The shuttle service is $2 round trip, with part of the proceeds donated to the Papillion Little League.
