Mammoth to compete for NLL championship on Saturday
May 10, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - Only one game remains on this season's National Lacrosse League schedule and the Colorado Mammoth is one step away from the league championship. The Mammoth plays in its first title game in the team's four-year history this Saturday in the 2006 RBK NLL Championship Game presented by Edge Active Care.
"The goal of every player and every coach at the beginning of the year is to win a championship," Mammoth coach Gary Gait said. "It's a thrill for our players and our organization to be in this position."
After earning the West Division's bid to the championship game the Mammoth (12-6) will face the East Division champion Buffalo Bandits (13-5) on Saturday at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y. Faceoff is at 4 p.m. Mountain time.
The Mammoth has won seven of its last eight games, including West Division playoff wins over Calgary and Arizona. The team's only loss in the last two months came in Buffalo at the hands of the Bandits.
"Having already played against Buffalo certainly makes it easier," Gait said. "But I'm sure the Bandits feel the same way. The teams have seen each other and have an idea of what the other does well. We'll make some adjustments and we feel that we have a great shot at winning this game."
Broadcast info
Saturday's NLL championship game will be broadcast live on ESPN 2 at 4 p.m. Mountain time. The game can be heard locally live on KKFN-AM 950 The Fan.
Altitude Sports & Entertainment, the official television network of the Mammoth, will re-air the game on Saturday at 8:30 p.m., Sunday at 6 p.m., and Monday at 10 a.m.
Viewing party
The Mammoth's official NLL championship game viewing party will be at Brooklyn's at Pepsi Center. The party begins at 3 p.m., one hour prior to the start of the Mammoth's title matchup with the Bandits.
Free parking will be available to fans in Pepsi Center's Lot A South and Brooklyn's will be offering Coors and Coors Light drafts for $2 as well as nachos and wings for $5.
Mammoth fans are encouraged to arrive early and take part in the celebration with members of the Mammoth's Wild Bunch dance team, who will be in attendance along with the mascot, Wooly.
