San Jose Stealth News Release

SAN JOSE - The National Lacrosse League and the San Jose Stealth announced yesterday that Stealth forwards Jeff Zywicki and Luke Wiles were selected to the NLL Edge Active Care All-Rookie Team. The rookie team honors were voted on by the Governors, General Managers and Head Coaches of the League's eleven member clubs.

Selected by the Stealth as the eighth overall pick in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft, Jeff Zywicki lived up to expectations by leading the Stealth in goals (27), power play goals (9), shots (169) and tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (1) in 16 games this season.

In addition to his impressive rookie numbers, Zywicki (27G, 21A, 48Pts, 77LB) was also named the NLL Rookie of the Week three times this season, including winning the award in consecutive weeks (for weeks ending Jan. 12, March 15 and March 22).

Another impressive rookie for the Stealth this season was forward Luke Wiles. Originally selected by the Philadelphia Wings as the fourth overall pick in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft, Wiles was acquired on March 9, 2006 by the Stealth along with Chad Thompson in exchange for Mike Regan and a first-round pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft.

Wiles (23G, 26A, 49Pts, 68LB) finished the season ranked second on the squad in points (49), goals (23), shorthanded goals (2), shots (165) and finished fourth on the squad in assists (26). Wiles appeared in nine games with the Stealth this season (13G, 13A, 26Pts, 37LB).

Joining Zywicki and Wiles to form the NLL Edge Active Care All-Rookie Team were:

Brodie Merrill, Portland Lumberjax

Sean Greenhalgh, Philadelphia Wings

Dan Carey, Colorado Mammoth

Jeff Zywicki, San Jose Stealth

Shawn Evans, Rochester Knighthawks

Luke Wiles, San Jose Stealth

Rookie defenseman Brodie Merrill of the Portland Lumberjax took home the NLL Edge Active Care Rookie of the Year Award, the award that Stealth forward Ryan Boyle earned last year during his rookie season.
