Last Week's Games
Friday, March 17th - Quad City 7 at Port Huron 3
The Mallards planted the Flags on Friday in Port Huron. A 7-3 Mallards win was powered by two Glenn Detulleo goals and a pair of power-play tallies in the third period by Jeff Petruic. Quad City jumped on the Flags early as Chad Woollard recorded his 39th goal of the year just 31 seconds into the game. The tally was the sixth in the three games for the Mallards leading scorer. Glenn Detulleo stretched the lead to 2-0 with his 12th goal of the year at 11:20 of the opening period. An active middle period featured three goals including two shorthanded markers. After a shorthanded goal by former Mallard Jason Jaworski cut the Mallards lead to one, Quad City stormed back with two unanswered goals to carry a 4-1 lead into the final period. Rafal Martynowski scored the first of the Mallards two second period goals. Martynowski's tally gave the rookie 20 goals on the year. Nadeau followed with a shorthanded goal 1:22 later to give the Mallards a three goal edge. The Mallards took a 6-1 lead early in the third on a power-play goal by Jeff Petruic and a shorthanded tally by Glenn Detulleo. The Flags showed signs of life in the middle stages of the final period as Bryan Cummings and Ryan Gillis scored to cut the Mallards lead to 6-3. The Flags could pull no closer before Petruic sealed the Mallards win with a power-play tally at 14:58 of the closing period.
Saturday, March 18th - Quad City 3 at Muskegon 5
In the front end of a home-and-home series, the Fury beat the Mallards 5-3 on Saturday night at L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon. Ryan Keller scored twice early in the second to stake the Fury to a three goal lead. A strong third period by the Mallards culminated with a pair of Matt Radoslovich goals, but the Fury were able to hold on to secure their 43rd win of the year. The Fury finished a fast-paced first period with a 2-1 lead. Muskegon's Jeff Nelson scored the game's first goal on a Fury power-play at 2:37 of the first. Quad City evened the game on Frank Littlejohn's first goal as a Mallard at 8:12 of the opening frame. Jason Lawmaster scored the period's final goal at 13:51 of the frame. Lawmaster's ninth tally gave the Fury a 2-1 lead after one. The Fury seized control of the game on a pair of Ryan Keller goals early in the middle period. Keller scored on a Muskegon power-play just 83 seconds into the second. Just 1:24 later, Keller added a shorthanded tally to give Muskegon a 4-1 edge. The rest of the period featured scoreless hockey as the Fury carried a three-goal lead into the final 20 minutes. Robin Bouchard extended the Fury lead to 5-1 at 6:36 of the third period with his 52nd goal of the season. The Mallards battled back to control play for much of the final frame. Matt Radoslovich scored a pair of goals, including a power-play tally, to cut the Muskegon lead to 5-3. The Mallards rookie forward leads first-year Mallards with 21 goals on the season. The Mallards could pull no closer and fell to 31-25-7 on the season.
Sunday, March 19th - Muskegon 1 at Quad City 0
The second meeting in 24 hours between the Mallards and Fury produced less offense but more excitement than the previous meeting in Muskegon. After scoring early in the third period, the Fury held on for a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at The MARK. The first two periods featured superb goaltending. Quad City's Terry Friesen and Muskegon's Nick Boucher exchanged saves through the first 40 minutes. Friesen made 26 saves through the first two periods while Boucher stopped 15 shots. In the third, David Wrigley scored his 33rd goal of the year for Muskegon at 4:39 of the period to give the Fury a 1-0 lead. Wrigley's goal stood up as the game winner despite a frantic final push by the Mallards as the game ended with an uncovered puck sitting in the Muskegon crease.
