Mallards Open Playoffs Friday at Colorado
March 27, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (March 27, 2011)- The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced the Mallards will face the Colorado Eagles in the best-of-five opening round of the CHL's Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Playoffs beginning with game one Friday night at 8:05 p.m. in Loveland, Colorado.
The Mallards will play game two- also on the road- Saturday night at 8:05 p.m., before returning home for game three next Tuesday evening, April 5 at 7:05 p.m. If a fourth game is necessary, it will be played next Wednesday night, April 6 at the i wireless Center at 7:05 p.m. Should the series go to a fifth game, the Eagles would host the deciding contest on Saturday, April 9 at 8:05 p.m.
Mallards first round playoff tickets will be available beginning Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Tickets can be purchased in person at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on game days from 10:00 a.m. until the end of the first period.
The Mallards (34-31-1, 69 points) enter the postseason as the seventh seed in the CHL's Turner Conference, while Colorado (40-22-4, 84 points) is the second seed. The Mallards won two of their three regular season meetings with the Eagles. Each of those three games was played in the Quad Cities- the Mallards on Friday night will play at the Budweiser Event Center for the first time.
The Mallards entered their final regular season game last night in Dayton in sixth place in the conference, but the Mallards' 6-2 loss to the Gems, combined with the Fort Wayne Komets' 4-2 win over the Eagles, enabled the Komets to move past the Mallards into sixth place. The Mallards finished tied for seventh place with the Gems, but won the tie-breaker with Dayton by virtue of having secured more non-shootout wins than the Gems this season.
Similarly, Colorado went into its regular season finale last night in Fort Wayne in first place in the conference, but the Eagles' loss, combined with the Rapid City Rush's 5-2 win over the Arizona Sundogs last night, enabled the Rush to wrest the top conference seed away from Colorado. While the Rush and Eagles finished the campaign deadlocked, it was the Rush who picked up more non-shootout wins over the course of the season and thus took the tie-breaker.
