Bucks Finish Season with Win

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League closed out the 2010-11 season by beating the Texas Brahmas 6-5 Sunday night at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks, who were eliminated from the playoff race Saturday night, won the final two games of the regular season to finish 24-34-8 (56 points).

Justin Styffe scored two goals, including the game-winner with just 1:13 left in the third period to help the Bucks to their first four-game home winning streak since February 18th-March 4th of last season.

The Brahmas (34-27-5) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 4:40 into the game when former Buck Ryan Bennett took a pass from Dylan Stanley on an odd-man rush to pick up his third goal of the season.

The Bucks tied the game at 1-1 with 7:17 left in the first period when Brian Matte took a laser feed from Darryl Smith in front of the net and stuffed in his 14th of the season. The goal was Matte's 10th in his last 13 games.

Less than a minute later the Brahmas took a 2-1 lead when Greg Hogeboom took a pass from Chad Woollard on an odd-man rush to net his 37th of the season.

Texas increased their lead to 3-1 with 4:24 left in the first when Woollard caught the Bucks on a change and scored a breakaway goal to score his league-leading 45th of the year.

Texas outshot Laredo 8-6 in the first period.

Laredo's offense exploded for four goals in the second period as they took a 5-4 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The Bucks cut the Brahmas lead to 3-2 at the 7:09 mark of the second when Neil Trimm scored on a backhander in front of the net to pick up his 22nd of the season.

Laredo tied the game at 3-3 a little over two minutes later when Hans Benson jammed in a rebound to pick up his 10th of the campaign.

Less than two minutes later Darryl Smith gave the Bucks a 4-3 lead when he streaked down the right wing and scored on a snap shot from the top of the circle. The tally was Smith's ninth of the year. Laredo finishes with a record of 19-1-2 record when scoring four or more goals in a game.

The Bucks went up 5-3 a little over three minutes later when Justin Styffe tipped in Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel's shot from the point to score his 10th of the season.

Woollard cut the Bucks lead to 5-4 with 5:01 left in the second when he scored from the right corner on an odd angle shot.

Laredo outshot Texas 16-4 in the second period.

Texas tied the game at 5-5 with just 3:54 left in regulation when Mick Lawrence scored from the slot to tally his 22th of the season.

Laredo outshot Texas 12-10 in the third period and for the game 34-22.

BUCKS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

Prior to Sunday's game the Bucks made several roster moves, including placing Jeff Bes on the IR, activating Aaron Boogaard from the IR and releasing Keegan Dansereau.

Bes finished his eighth season in Laredo putting up 55 points (20-3555) in 60 games. Bes is the Bucks all-time leader in goals (219), assists (421) and points (640) and finishes this season with 1,045 career points through 19 professional seasons.

Boogaard has put up seven points (2-57) and piled up 172 PIM's in 52 games for the Bucks.

Dansereau played in 13 games for the Bucks putting up 10 points (6-410) with a plus-for rating.
