Mallards Move to Third in West Following 2-1-1 Week

Moline, IL - The Mallards went 2-1-1 last week to improve to 5-4-1 through their first ten games. The Mallards won 5-4 in Rockford on Wednesday before dropping a 6-1 decision in Muskegon on Friday. On Saturday, the Mallards returned home for a 3-1 win over Danbury. The Mallards ended the week with a 2-1 shootout loss at home vs. Rockford.

* Saturday, November 13, 7:00 p.m. vs. the Kansas City Outlaws-It's Old-Time Hockey Night as the Mallards welcome Legendary Chicago Blackhawks organist Frank Pellico. Pellico will entertain fans all night long with genuine organ music. The Old-Time Hockey Night experience is a throwback to the early days of hockey when organ music was played to entertain fans instead of piped in rock and roll music. The Old-Time Hockey Night experience will allow long-time hockey fans to reminiscence of the early days, while new fans will get a piece of the game's history. Upcoming Promotions

* November 27th is sure to be one of the most memorable dates in Mallards history. Kerry Toporowski will have his #77 jersey retired as the Mallards take on the Fort Wayne Komets. A Kerry Toporowski DVD will be given away to fans courtesy of Deere Harvester Credit Union.

* Following the game on November 27th, the Mallards are hosting a roast of Kerry Toporowski. Join the team, as they take their shots at one of the most notorious pranksters in team history. Special surprises guests will also attend in honor of Topper Tickets are available for $25 with proceeds going to the Genesis Medical Center. Tonight, the Mallards are back at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge for Duck Talk beginning at 7 p.m. This week's guests are Jonathan Gagnon, Mike Kompon and Jeff Doyle along with coach Paul Gillis. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

Friday, November 12 vs. Port Huron at The MARK

The Mallards host the Beacons for the first time this season on Friday at The MARK. The Beacons enter this week with a 2-7-1 record. These teams have met just eight times with the Mallards holding a 5-2-1 record entering Friday's game. After Friday, the Beacons are at The MARK two more times this year (December 15 and March 12). The Mallards head to Port Huron for back-to-back games on December 11th and 12th. The Mallards are also at Port Huron on January 2nd.

Saturday, November 13 vs. Kansas City at The MARK

The Outlaws make their second trip to The MARK on Saturday. Kansas City was at The MARK on Opening Night and suffered a 6-2 loss to the Mallards. The Outlaws broke a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 7-4 win at Fort Wayne.

Gherson Shuts Down Trashers, Battles Hogs

Robert Gherson started both home games for the Mallards this weekend. The 21-year old rookie netminder stopped 28 of 29 Danbury shots on Saturday to earn his first professional win. On Sunday, Gherson made 27 saves in a 2-1 shootout loss vs. Rockford. Following his strong weekend performance, Gherson is first in the league in goals against average (1.56) and second in save percentage (.944).

Barber On a Rampage

Greg Barber continues to impress with ten points (four goals and six assists) in six games as a Mallard. Barber has recorded a point in five of his six games as a Mallard. He has five points (two goals and three assists) in two games vs. Rockford.

Gagnon's Game Winners

Two days after being named UHL Player of the Week, Jonathan Gagnon recorded his team-leading second game-winning goal of the season. Gagnon's third period marker vs. Rockford game the Mallards a 5-2 lead before the Hogs scored twice late in the third.

Last Week's Games

Wednesday, November 3-Mallards 5 at Rockford 4

The Mallards and Hogs combined for 193 penalty minutes on Wednesday night in Rockford. The first period was marred by 106 PIMs including four ten-minute misconducts and six fighting majors. The Mallards skated away with a 5-4 win to even the season series at one game apiece. Greg Barber scored twice for the Mallards and added a pair of assists for four points on the night. Sergei Durdin and Dave Stewart scored for the Mallards in the second period. Durdin's goal was his first professional marker while Stewart's goal was his first as a Mallard. Jonathan Gagnon scored for the third straight game as he recorded the game-winner on a third period power play.

Friday, November 5-Mallards 1 at Musekgon 6

Quad City fell to 0-2-0 on the season in Muskegon as the Fury beat the Mallards 6-1. The loss ended a three-game Mallards win streak. Five of Muskegon's six goals came with the man advantage as the Mallards killed just five of ten Muskegon power-play opportunities. Scott Hollis and Robin Bouchard each recorded a pair of goals while Brant Blackned and Todd Robinson added solo markers. Bouchard received first star honors with two goals and three assists. In two games vs. Quad Cities this season, Bouchard has eight points (four goals and four assists). A.J. MacLean scored the lone goal of the night for the Mallards with a third period marker assisted by Drew Otten. MacLean's goal was his second in three games as a Mallard.

Saturday, November 6-Danbury 1 at Mallards 3

Quad City scored a pair of third period markers to beat the Danbury Trashers on Saturday at The MARK. Paul Cabana and Brad Essex each scored their first goal of the season in the third as the Mallards won 3-1. The game was tied at one after the first period as Danbury's Brent Gretzky and Quad City's Greg Barber each scored on the power play. After a scoreless second, Cabana's game-winner came 4:53 into the third. Essex would add an insurance goal with 9:49 left as the Mallards improved to 2-0-0 on home ice.

Sunday, November 7-Rockford 2 at Quad City 1-shootout

The Mallards lost a shootout for the first time this season on Sunday at The MARK. The teams traded first period goals as J.C. Ruid scored for Rockford and Jason Deskins scored on a Quad City power play. After two scoreless periods, the game headed to a shootout. The shootout ended after Miguel Lafleche scored the lone marker of the ninth round to give Rockford a 3-2 edge in the extra frame.

Player of the Week

Greg Barber is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. Barber had six points (three goals and three assists) in four games last week. He recorded four points (two goals and two assists) on Wednesday at Rockford. After being shutout on Friday in Muskegon, Barber scored a goal vs. Danbury and had an assist on Sunday vs. Rockford. The Kelowna, British Columbia native has ten points (four goals and six assists) in six games as a Mallard.

Goaltender of the Week

Robert Gherson is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. Gherson stopped 55 of 57 shots while going 1-0-1 in two starts. Gherson leads the league in goals against average (1.56) and is second in save percentage (.944).
