Unlike the contest against the Kansas City Outlaws on October 29, the IceHogs, behind solid goaltending by Michel Robinson, topped the Quad City Mallards 2-1 in the extra session at the MARK of the Quad Cities. Both tallies in regulation came during the first period, and then Robinson and Mallards rookie puck stopper Robert Gherson dueled, matching save for save, sending the game to the shootout. Rockford was first to light the lamp, as J.C. Ruid punched home a rebound at 9:50 of the opening frame. Rockford's lead was short lived however, because on a power play at 14:11, Jason Deskins slapped one home from the point to tie the contest. Both goaltenders made 28 saves in regulation. In the shootout, J.F. Dufour netted a second round shootout goal before Deskins scored in the fifth round to send the game into a sudden death shootout. After the Hogs Vince Malts and QC's Marty Standish traded goals in round seven, rookie winger Miguel Lafleche notched the game winner in round nine for the Hogs. The win pushed Rockford's road record to 3-0-0.
