Last Game

Carter Verhaeghe scored once and added two assists as the host Missouri Mavericks defeated the Mallards 4-1 Wednesday night. The Mavericks scored four unanswered goals after Alex Gudbranson gave the Mallards the lead just 57 seconds into the game.

Undermanned

The Mallards entered Wednesday night's game already without leading goal scorer Raphael Bussieres- who was recalled by the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild- and top point producer Olivier Archambault. Archambault, who is tied for third in the ECHL in assists (13) and tied for fifth in points (18), was sidelined by a lower body injury. The Mallards then lost forward Kevin Henderson to an upper body injury in the first period Wednesday evening. The Mallards were left with just eight forwards and finished the game with defenseman Kevin Gibson playing up front.

Busy

The Mallards are in the midst of a stretch of seven games in ten days and eight games in 12 days. Wednesday night's game in Missouri was the first of four in five nights for the Mallards. Beginning tonight they will play three games in three days for a second straight weekend.

Home Sweet Home

The Mallards have won five straight home games and are unbeaten in regulation (7-0-1) in eight home games since dropping their home opener October 23 against Tulsa. Their current home winning streak is the Mallards' longest since they won eight straight Central Hockey League games at home between March 3 and March 24, 2013. Their current home regulation unbeaten streak is the Mallards' longest since they went 11 straight United Hockey League home games (9-0-2) without a regulation defeat between February 2 and March 10, 2007.

Rough Road

The Mallards have suffered five straight road losses and have gone winless (0-6-2) in eight road games since winning their season opener in Allen October 16. The Mallards last dropped five in a row in regulation when they lost five straight International Hockey League away games between March 19 and April 3, 2010. The Mallards last went winless in eight straight road games (0-4-4) between November 9 and December 5 last year.

Finishing Kick

Even after being outscored 2-0 in the third period Wednesday night, the Mallards have outscored their foes 20 to 11 in the third period this season.

First Blood

The Mallards scored first Wednesday night after allowing the first goal in each of their prior five games. Wednesday marked the first time this season the Mallards have lost in regulation when scoring first. On the season they are 5-1-1 when opening the scoring and 3-6-2 when giving up the first goal.

Between the Pipes

Brody Hoffman made 19 saves while suffering the loss in goal Wednesday night. Steve Micalek was named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week after going 2-0-0 last weekend with a 1.50 goals against average and .957 save percentage.

Iron Mike

Mike Monfredo is tied for the ECHL lead among defensemen in assists (12) and is third among defensemen in points (14).

Special Teams

The Mallards have gone just 2-for-18 on the power play over their last six games but still rank fifth in the ECHL on the man advantage (21.5 percent). The Mallards matched a season high by allowing two power play goals Wednesday night. They are now twenty-second in the ECHL in penalty killing (80.5 percent). The Mallards and Wings will meet a total of four times this season and will collide three times at the iWireless Center.

Head to Head

Tonight's game is the first clash between the Mallards and Wings since the Mallards defeated Kalamazoo 3-2 on March 30, 2007. The Mallards and Wings competed against each other in the United Hockey League between 2000 and 2007. The Mallards went 24-19-7 in 50 meetings with the Wings over those seven seasons. They went 14-9-5 against Kalamazoo on home ice.

Milestones

Monfredo Wednesday night played his two hundred twenty-second career game for the Mallards to move past Matt Duffy into twelfth place in games played in team history. Monfredo has 94 career points...Henderson recorded his first point as a Mallard by assisting on Gudbranson's goal Wednesday night...Darren McMillan has recorded 99 points as a Mallard... Vladimir Nikiforov has 98 career ECHL points...Anthony Collins has 96 penalty minutes as a Mallard...Ryan Tesink has played 49 career games.

Ryan Tesink returned to the Mallard line-up Wednesday night after missing five games (upper body)...Olivier Archambault (lower body) missed Wednesday night's game...Raphael Bussieres was recalled by the AHL's Iowa Wild November 24.
