Norfolk Signs Nicolas Blanchard, Releases Kurt Etchegary

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals announce today that the ECHL club has signed forward Nicolas Blanchard and released forward Kurt Etchegary.

Blanchard, 28, is an AHL veteran of eight seasons and has played nine NHL games since turning pro in 2007. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward has 64 goals and 80 assists for 144 career points in 531 total AHL appearances. The native of Granby, QC accumulated 895 penalty minutes in the AHL in stints with Albany, Charlotte and St. John's. Blanchard is formerly a sixth-round draft selection of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005.

Etchegary, 21, went scoreless in his North American professional hockey debut with Norfolk on Wednesday night versus Greenville after being signed earlier this week. The 5-foot-11 and 190-pounder also picked up two penalty minutes.
