Northwoods Madison Mallards

Mallards Eye Third Straight Victory

June 17, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release

Offense was the story last night, as a three-run shot in the fifth off the bat of Nico Hoerner (Stanford) lifted the Mallards (11-6) to a 5-4 win over the Battle Creek Bombers (9-8). Tonight might be different, however, as both teams will be sending quality starters to the hill.

Frank German (North Florida) will get the ball from Donnie Scott this evening, looking for the sweep of the Bombers. The 6'2," right-hander allowed only two runs across four innings in his previous start, lacking the run support to secure a victory. He has a 3.17 ERA through 5.2 innings in 2016 after his first start was cut short due to a rain delay.

The Bombers will give the ball to Chi-Ping Wu (National Taiwan) tonight, who will be making his third start of the season. Wu has arguably been the Bombers best pitcher in 2016, allowing only two runs and five hits over 8.1 innings. He has struck out seven and walked seven in that span.

Madison is coming off a win that saw them commit no errors for the second consecutive game after going 11 straight games with at least one error. The Mallards are 4-0 in contests in which they don't commit an error.

Tonight's game against Battle Creek is set for 7:05 pm. The game will feature Whiplash the Dog Riding Cowboy Monkey. The Madison Knitters' Guild will also be having their Stitch 'n Pitch Night. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
