Agramont's Strong Debut Not Enough in 4-1 Loss

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Waterloo Bucks dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season after falling to the La Crosse Loggers, 4-1, in the series opener on Thursday night. Daniel Agramont (0-1) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and retired nine in a row at one point in his season debut.

Argamont allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking two. Cullen Large ended Agramont's no-hit bid with a one-out single to center in the sixth inning. Justin Wylie broke the scoreless affair with an RBI double to right-center, bringing Large around to score.

La Crosse (11-6) extended their lead to 4-0 with three unearned runs in the seventh, all of which came with two outs. Lorenzo Hampton, Jr. was hit in the shoulder to start the seventh before Luis Trevino reached on a Waterloo Bucks fielding error, giving the Loggers runners on first and second. Gavin Johns then reached on a fielder's choice, giving La Crosse runners on the corners. 2015 Northwoods League MVP Mason McCoy filled the bases after drawing a five-pitch walk. Large made it 3-0 with a two-run single before another Bucks fielding error allowed Large to score the Loggers fourth run of the night.

Waterloo (11-6) got on the board with a run in the eighth. Zach Weatherford singled to right with one out before stealing second. Alex Boxwell ended the shutout with an RBI double down the left field line, plating Weatherford.

Weatherford led the Bucks' offense with two hits on the night while Robert Neustrom extended his hitting streak to seven games with an infield single in the first.

Nick Hynes tossed his second scoreless relief appearance of the year after retiring three of the four hitters he faced in the eighth. Hynes yielded one hit and struck out one over an inning.

Mark Nowaczewski (2-0) tossed six shutout frames in the win. Nowaczewski induced a pair of double plays and yielded just four hits and two walks while striking out a season-high seven.

David Smith recorded a hold after allowing one run on two hits and one walk in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Connor Wollersheim (1) shut the door with the five-out save. The southpaw retired all four Bucks hitters he faced in 1 2/3 innings, including one via a strikeout.

The Bucks conclude their three-game road trip tomorrow evening against the La Crosse Loggers. First pitch from Copeland Park in the series finale is at 7:05 p.m. LHP Patrick Boyle (1-0, 3.24) takes the hill for Waterloo while La Crosse counters with LHP Nick Raquet (1-1, 1.35).

Waterloo returns home to Riverfront Stadium on Saturday, June 18 for the start of a two-game homestand against the Thunder Bay Border Cats. Saturday's game is at 7:05 p.m. and is Star Wars Night and a Post-Game Fireworks Extravaganza. The first 500 fans to Saturday's game receive a free Star Wars T-Shirt! The Bucks will also be wearing special jerseys as part of Star Wars Night that will be sold during the game via a silent auction with the proceeds to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Cedar Valley. Come dressed as your favorite Star Wars character as players from the 501st Central Garrison will be on hand for photos.
