
Mallards Begin Home Schedule on Saturday

Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL â The Mallards are set to kick off their 10th Anniversary Celebration this Saturday at The MARK. The year-long party begins with an appearance by the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders presented by Valley Bank. Pre-game ceremonies begin at 7:15 p.m. with face-off set for 8:00 p.m.
The Mallards begin the week with a 1-3-0 record after dropping a pair of games last weekend in Muskegon and Missouri. The defending Colonial Cup Champs beat the Mallards 4-1 before the Ducks suffered a 3-0 shutout loss in Missouri.
The team has a chance to avenge the loss to Missouri this Friday at the Family Arena. The Mallards return to Missouri to battle the Otters (2-2-0) for the second time this season.
Saturday's opponent, the Kansas City Outlaws, have been one of the surprise teams in the early going of the 2004-05 season. The expansion Outlaws burst out of the gate with a 4-0-0 record before suffering their first loss on Saturday in Muskegon.

Pre-game festivities, including the introduction of the 2004-05 Mallards, begin at 7:15 p.m. Valley Bank presents an appearance by the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders.
Standings
The Mallards are at the bottom of the Western Division with a 1-3-0 record. The Mallards are four points behind Rockford for the fourth position in the West.

Deskins Extends Point Streak to Three
Jason Deskins recorded the Mallards lone goal of the weekend to extend his point streak to three games. Through the Mallards' first three contests, Deskins recorded two goals and two assists for four points. Deskins is also among the team's leaders in penalty minutes. Deskins' 23 PIMs rank second to only Serge Crochetiere who stands first with 26 minutes.
Gherson Stands Tall in First Pro Start
Robert Gherson didn't get the win in his first pro start (vs. Missouri on Saturday), but he did stop 24 of 27 Otters shots. Gherson was assigned to the Quad Cities from the American League's Houston Aeros. The rookie netminder from Toronto made his pro debut in a relief role vs. Rockford on opening night. Gherson stopped 10 of 11 shots vs. the Hogs in his first pro appearance.

The leading scorer from 2003-04, Muskegon's Robin Bouchard, recorded a pair of goals and an assist as the Fury remained undefeated. Jason Deskins scored the lone Mallards goal with 7:04 left in the third. Deskins' goal extended his point streak to three games.
Friday, October 23-Mallards 0 at Missouri 3
The Mallards suffered their first shutout of the season at the hands of the River Otters. Otter Mark Odut scored a pair as the Otters won for the second night in a row.
Player of the Week
Jason Deskins is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. Deskins recorded a goal in the Mallards 4-1 defeat on Friday in Muskegon.
Goaltender of the Week
Robert Gherson is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. Gherson stopped 24 of 27 shots in his first pro start on Saturday in Missouri.
