Last Week's Games

Wednesday, April 4th - Quad City 3 at Chicago 4 Shootout

The Mallards and Hounds hooked up for a wild game on Wednesday night in Chicago. When the smoke cleared, the Hounds had earned a 4-3 shootout win despite a two goal effort from Quad City's Matt Radoslovich. Chicago netminder Marty Magers was the star of the game as he earned his 20th win of the year following a 43-save performance. The teams traded first period goals as the opening frame ended with the game tied at one. Former Mallard Drew Otten scored for the Hounds at 12:33 of the first just three seconds before a Mallards penalty was set to expire. Otten scooped up a rebound off the Mallards end wall and slid it past Jason Tapp to put the Hounds in front. Exactly six minutes later, Matt Radoslovich put the Mallards on the board as he sent a centering pass in front that deflected into the Chicago net for his 11th goal of the season. The marker came just two seconds after a Mallards power play ended. The Hounds reclaimed the lead at 5:31 of the second when Todd Grant scored his 26th goal of the year on a Chicago power play. Sean Starke netted his 14th goal of the year when he swatted Chad Woollard's rebound into the Chicago net on a Mallards power play. With the score tied at two, Tim Plett scored his 16th goal of the year to put the Hounds up 3-2 after two. At the 13:15 mark of the second period, Chicago's Chris Gehrke incited a line brawl that resulted in 64 penalty minutes and left the Mallards with just 11 players for the final minutes of the second period. In the third, a depleted Mallards lineup scored the period's only goal as Radoslovich beat Marty Magers at 8:40 of the final frame for his second goal of the night and 12th of the season. Radoslovich's tally forced the Mallards 16th shootout of 2006-07. In the extra frame, Rod Aldoff and Todd Grant scored for Chicago while Patrick Nadeau netted the lone Mallards tally.

Friday, April 6th - Quad City 4 at Flint 5 Shootout

The Mallards and Generals hooked up for a memorable Perani Arena regular season finale on Saturday night. The Generals earned two points in a 5-4 shootout win while the Mallards earned a single regulation point. The Generals took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame when Mike Kinnie netted his 20th goal of the season on a Flint power play with 9:07 of the period. The first period proved costly for Quad City as both Jeff Petruic and Justin Chwedoruk were taken off the ice following injuries. In the second period, Blake Stewart scored his eighth goal of the year on a feed from Patrick Nadeau during a 2-on-1 break. The assist was the 499th career point for the Mallards captain. Mallard netminder Brad Smith made several acrobatic saves to hold his team in the contest in the middle period. Flint rearguard Sean Kotary finally broke through when he netted his second goal of the year at 18:19 of the period. As the period concluded, rookie netminder Smith was credited with 18 second period saves. A wild third period featured five goals as the Mallards came back to force a shootout. The period started with Mike Kinnie's second tally of the night to put Flint up 3-1. Brent Currie scored on a point shot to slice the Flint lead to one goal before Rick Smith answered for the Generals to set the score at 4-2. In the final 4:37 of the contest, Quad City struck twice to force a shootout. Brett Pilkington scored at 15:23 of the period before Chad Woollard added his 35th marker with just 92 seconds left to force the shootout. In the shootout, each team scored twice in the first five rounds. Mike Kinnie and Jordan Fox scored for Flint in the first and second rounds before Sergei Durdin and Don Parsons answered with goals in the third and fourth rounds. After a scoreless sixth round and top seventh round, the Generals won in the bottom of the seventh on a goal by former Mallard Sean Kotary.

Saturday, April 7th - Quad City 7 at Muskegon 2

Quad City ended the 2006-07 regular season with a 7-2 drubbing of Muskegon on Saturday night at L.C. Walker Arena. The victory spoiled Muskegon's shot at a third Tarry Cup Championship as the top team in the UHL during the regular season. Patrick Nadeau scored twice in the win while recording his 500th career point. The Mallards took control of the game early with four goals during the first 4:39 of the contest. Patrick Nadeau recorded his 500th career point just 27 seconds into the game when he beat Muskegon's Clayton Pool for his 13th goal of the year. Exactly one minute later, Steve MacIntyre unleashed a rocket from the right wing point that found the Muskegon net. It was the 2nd goal of the season for the Brock, Saskatchewan native. Luke Stauffacher added his first goal of the night 49 seconds later. Stauffacher was denied on his initial shot before beating Pool on the rebound. The third tally of the first 2:16 of the game knocked Clayton Pool from the contest. Back-up netminder Ryan Cyr supplied little relief for the Fury as he allowed Brett Pilkington's 29th goal of the season on a goal-mouth scramble at 4:39 of the frame. Ryan Menei netted the Fury's first goal ten minutes later to set the score at 4-1. Stauffacher struck again before the first period ended to put Quad City up 5-1. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin native recorded his 42nd goal of the season after being sprung on a breakaway by Dale Lupul. The Mallards extended their lead to 6-1 at 2:50 of the second period when Travis Granbois scored on a feed from behind the Muskegon net by Luke Stauffacher. Adam Smyth scored for the Fury on a Muskegon power play at 11:17 of the second. The Mallards responded when Patrick Nadeau scored his second goal of the night just 1:01 after the Smyth marker to end the second period with the Mallards leading 7-2. The teams skated scoreless through the third as Jason Tapp capped a spectacular performance with 15 third period saves. For the game, Tapp stopped 38 shots while earning his 31st win.

Player of the Week

Brett Pilkington is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. The rookie forward assisted on a Matt Radoslovich goal on Wednesday in Chicago. Friday night, Pilkington recorded his 28th goal of the year in a 5-4 shootout loss to Flint. The rookie capped the week with a goal and an assist on Saturday vs. Muskegon.

Goalie of the Week

Jason Tapp went 1-0-1 last week to earn the Mallards nomination for UHL Goaltender of the Week. Tapp stopped 20 shots in a shootout loss to Chicago on Wednesday before making 38 spectacular saves in a 7-2 win over Muskegon on Saturday.
