Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today the results of their actions during Monday's UHL Waiver Draft.

Former Jackals captain Brent Cullaton was the first pick made by Bloomington. Cullaton was traded by the Jackals to Kalamazoo, but suffered a season ending injury. With the second pick of the draft order, after finishing in 9th place during the regular season, the Jackals took defenseman Tim Wedderburn from the Rockford IceHogs and dropped defenseman Kim Brandvold.

Wedderburn a 6'2" 218 lbs defenseman from Okotoks, Alberta played most of the season with the Rockford IceHogs, putting up 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) and 24 penalty minutes in 40 games played. He began the season on a two-way contract with the AHL's Chicago Wolves, but was traded to the Hershey Bears on 3/1/07. Wedderburn has since played in 17 games for Hershey, recording 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) and 8 PIMs.

Elmira then had unprotected players taken in the next 5 selections. Port Huron chose defenseman Joe Markusen with the third pick. Chicago acquired goaltender Dave Lemanowicz with the 4th pick. Flint then took defenseman Nick Harloff with the 5th choice. In a reverse of two trades to Elmira, Quad City reacquired defenseman Andrei Lupandin with the 6th selection and Kalamazoo got forward Glenn Detulleo back with the 7th choice.

In the second round the Jackals picked up defenseman T.J. Reynolds, also from Rockford, and dropped defenseman R.C. Lyke. Reynolds, a 6'2" 225 lbs defenseman from Kitchener, Ontario, played two games for Rockford this season, but has spent most of the year with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals. In 41 games for Milwaukee this year, Reynolds has 1 assist and 84 penalty minutes. The 25-year old is in his second year with the Admirals and 4th in the AHL.

The Jackals passed their third round pick and the drafted ended when every team passed in the 4th round. Quad City and Chicago were the most aggressive teams in the draft, each picking up 3 players. None of the top three teams in the standings, Fort Wayne, Muskegon and Rockford made any additions, passing in all four rounds.

Prior to the draft the Jackals protected the following players: Erik Anderson, Rob Chappell, Shawn Degagne, Scott Drevitch, Noah Katz, Bobby Kukulka, Andrew Leach, Marc Lefebvre, Eric Lind, Frank Littlejohn, Chris Mann, David Morelli, Mike Oliveira, Mike Sgroi, Zach Sikich, Curtis Tidball and Dan Veenema.

The Jackals also waived the following players from the active and inactive roster: Wes Blevins, Jeff Daw, Trevor Edwards, Chanse Fitzpatrick, Brent Gretzky, Dion Hyman, David Hymovitz, Tommy Kotsopoulos, Philippe Lauze, Yevgeny Lazarev and J.F. Soucy.

The draft order is the reverse order of the teams' winning percentages at the end of the regular season. Member clubs first had to submit their final playoff/protected 19-man roster, with any unprotected players being placed on waivers. With each selection, a team must then make room for their new player by placing one of their protect roster players on waivers. The draft ends when all ten teams pass their draft choice.

After completing the 2006-2007 season the Jackals will now begin preparations for their 8th season of operations beginning in October of 2007.
