Game Recaps

Wednesday, Apr. 4 Port Huron 3 @ Elmira 4

Elmira got things rolling in the first period, but Mark Cadotte scored back-to-back goals to put the Flags up, 2-1. Elmira tied things up before the end of the second. Ben Gustavson picked up another tally but was matched by the Jackals. The shoot-out went to ten rounds, where Gustavson and Ryan Markham were successful, but were edged out on the game-winner from Scott Drevitch.

Friday, Apr. 6 Port Huron 4 @ Elmira 5

Again, Elmira drew first blood, but Ryan Markham quickly retaliated, and Mike Olynyk gave Port Huron its first lead. Four straight from Elmira put the Flags down by three, but Markham and Scott Wray brought the team to within one. Time expired before the Flags could equalize things.

Saturday, Apr. 7 Elmira 4 @ Port Huron 5

Ben Gustavson and Kris Vernarsky each potted one, before Elmira set off its goal light to close out the second period, 2-1, in favor of the Flags. Both teams' offenses exploded in the third, starting with the Jackals, who leveled the tables, early. Mark Cadotte grabbed the third Flags tally, but Elmira matched it, minutes later. Chris Bogas, elated from hearing the news that his alma matter, Michigan State, had just captured the NCAA championship, went out on the ice and earned the go-ahead marker for Port Huron. Craig Mahon then capitalized on an empty-net, in what would be the game winner, as Elmira was able to find the net once more before time expired.

Wray earned League Honors for the final week of the season, marking just the third player in Port Huron uniform to do so, in 2006-07.

Team Notes

- Sunday's victory ended a 7-game (0-4-3) winless skid for the Flags and sent the team into the playoffs on a winning note. Coincidentally, Dustin Traylen ended a 4-game winless streak (0-2-2)

- The Flags waived defensemen Josh Vanderbreggen and Joe Koslakiewicz, along with left wings Mike James and Garett Cameron for the waiver draft. They picked up defenseman Joe Markusen from Elmira for the post-season

- Port Huron completed the 2006-07 season with 68 points (29-37-10), toppling the franchise record set in 2005-60 (23-47-6, 52 points).

- Scott Wray picked up at least one point in every match-up in the 3-game series against his former team, the Elmira Jackals. Wray recorded points in 7 of the final 10 games. In a sports anomaly, he played 78 games in a 76 game season, as a result of the number of games Elmira had played

- Greg Bullock and Jeremy Tucker each played in 74 games this season, the most of any team members who started the season with the Flags. Like Wray, Bullock also closed out the year with points in 7 of the last 10 games.
