Port Huron Flags News Release
(PORT HURON, MICH.) - As announced by the United Hockey League today, Port Huron left wing, Scott Wray, has been named Player of the Week in the final seven days of the season.
Wray finished week 26 with a goal, five assists and a +6 rating, all in games against his former team, the Elmira Jackals. Ironically, Wray's first weekly award from the league came back in November, when he wore the Jackals uniform. Wray's on-ice contributions helped the Flags go 1-1-1 in the series with Elmira and close out the regular season with a victory.
"It's a great confidence booster to take this award, heading into the playoffs," said Wray. "Obviously we were pumped to win our season closer, and it always feels good to excel against a team you used to play for."
Since being dealt to Port Huron, the Ottawa, Ont. native has made his presence known, recording 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in 21 games. Having played more games with Elmira prior to the trade, Wray finished the 76 game season appearing in 78 contests. In seven of his final ten games, he picked up at least one point. Wray lead the league in shots on goal, with 402, and graced the UHL's top 10 scoring list, with a season total of 74 points (37 goals, 37 assists).
In other Flags news, the team acquired defenseman Joe Markusen in the waiver draft this afternoon. Markusen split time this season between the Kalamazoo Wings and the Elmira Jackals, The 6-feet-1, 190 pounder is a native of Grafton, North Dakota, and finished 2006-07 with 28 points (7 goals, 21 assists) and a +4 rating.
