Mallards Battle Familiar Foe

The Mallards (9-5) have come to be very familiar with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (7-6) this season, as the two teams have already faced off six times in the first two and a half weeks of the season. Heading into the final two-game series of the season for these two clubs, the Mallards and Rafters are split at 3-3.

Mike Reitcheck (Penn) will get the ball tonight for Madison, who is coming off of one of the best starts in the league this season. The left-hander blanked Lakeshore across seven complete frames, striking out five in the process. Reitcheck is 2-0 on the season, posting a 2.25 ERA and striking out 11 in 12 innings of work.

The Rafters will throw right-hander Jay Peters (UW-Milwaukee), who has already faced the Mallards once this season. In his start against Madison, Peters went five complete innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs in the loss. On the season, Peters is 0-0 with eight strikeouts and a 3.27 ERA in 11 innings pitched.

The Mallards are coming off of their first road loss of the season, following an 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Wisconsin Woodchucks (7-6). Madison got strong performances out of the middle of their order in the loss, as Cameron Frost (Washington State) and Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) each hit their second home runs of the season. Armstrong has now recorded a hit in six straight games and reached base safely in every game he has played in 2016.

First pitch for tonight's game is set for 7:05 pm at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Thursday, June 16th against the Battle Creek Bombers. The game will feature a State Capitol Maynard bobblehead giveaway, brought to you by Zimbrick Honda.
