Madison Mallards News Release
Wausau, WI - Coming into the game with a seven game road winning streak, the Madison Mallards (9-5) suffered their first road loss of the season to the Wisconsin Woodchucks (7-6) by a final score of 8-3 on Monday night.
The Mallards fell into an early 6-0 hole, as the Woodchucks offense exploded in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a Cade Harris (Oklahoma) grand slam.
Kevin Berge (St. John Fisher) came on in relief for the Mallards after the offensive explosion, and did a good job of limiting the Woodchucks offensive attack. Berge threw three innings of two-run baseball, while only walking one batter.
With a two run home run in the seventh, Cameron Frost (Washington State) got the Mallards going offensively, as they cut the Woodchucks lead to 8-2.
Despite facing an 8-2 deficit, Chase Hoag (Fresno State) was great out of the bullpen, as he pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out one.
Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) was a bright spot for the Mallards, as he turned an unassisted double play in the sixth inning to help the Mallards get out of a bases loaded jam. He was also stellar from the plate, finishing the game 2-4 with a solo home run, his second of the season.
The Mallards will head to Wisconsin Rapids tomorrow night to take on the Rafters at 7:05 PM. Following the season series finale versus the Rafters on Wednesday, the Mallards will return to the Duck Pond for a three-game home stand. The Mallards play host to the Battle Creek Bombers on Thursday, June 16th on Zimbrick Honda Madison State Capitol Maynard bobblehead giveaway. There is also a UW Health Sports Medicine fastball pitching mechanics baseball clinic from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. $40 for ages 8-16. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
