Maine Drafts Seven, Acquires Center Chris Ayers from Reno

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, selected Shelvin Mack (G, 6-3, 207 lbs., Butler) in the first round of the 2012 NBA Development League Draft tonight. Mack was the first of seven players selected by Maine in the draft.

"We're really excited about Shelvin," said Boston Celtics Director of Player Personnel Austin Ainge. "We think he's an NBA-caliber point guard, good person and leader."

The Red Claws earlier in the day traded their 3rd round selection to the Reno Bighorns for center Chris Ayer (6-10, 250 lbs., Loyola Marymount). Maine had acquired the 3rd round pick from Bakersfield in a trade yesterday. Ayers, 29, is an NBADL veteran who is entering his 7th professional season. In 46 games with the Bighorns last season, he averaged 6.9 ppg and 4.0 rpg.
