Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Pat Mahomes led the Sioux Falls Canaries (12-19) to a 6-0 win as the veteran right-hander threw a complete-game shutout of the St. Paul Saints (18-14). Mahomes threw the full nine-innings allowing just six hits and two walks while striking out five to pick up his first win since returning to the Canaries.
The Canaries started their scoring in the second inning. Cory Harris walked, and Trevor Lawhorn hit his seventh home run of the season to give the Canaries a 2-0 lead.
The Birds added to their lead in the fourth. Beau Torbert opened the inning with a single. Cory Harris followed with a bunt single that saw Saints second baseman Alex Fonseca throw the ball by the bag at first. The error allowed Torbert to third base, putting runners on the corners for Patrick Reilly. Reilly singled to plate Torbert for a 3-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Joe Anthonsen singled to drive in two more runs, and the Canaries led 5-0 after four innings.
The Canaries got one final run when J.D. Reininger hit his fourth home run of the season in the sixth inning, to cap off the 6-0 win.
The Birds will host the Sioux City Explorers in a doubleheader on Friday, with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Friday's game will be followed by a "Post-Doubleheader Fireworks Show" presented by Sanford Health.
