Magic Tip-Off New Decade with a Win over Charge

The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeated the Canton Charge 129-113 in front of a home crowd at the RP Funding Center.

It was a back and forth contest to start the game with the Magic leading the Charge by just two points at the end of the first. The Magic continued the scoring drive in the second and rounded out the final few seconds of the half with a steal and three-pointer by Josh Magette to give the Magic a 60-51 lead.

The Charge cut the lead to just three points before the Magic offense exploded to run away with a 22 point lead and 94-72 in the quarter. The Charge outscored the Magic 33-28 in the fourth quarter but Lakeland would secure the final score 129-113. The Magic shot 63.3% from the three which proved to be the difference maker in tonight's contest. Both Two-Way Players, BJ Johnson (5-7) and Josh Magette (7-11) were key contributors shooting the three ball.

BJ Johnson led the way for Lakeland with 35 points and 8 rebounds. Josh Magette was also on fire for the Magic with 31 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Vic Law scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Andrew Rowsey came off the bench to go 3-4 from three for a total of 11 points on the night. Michale Kyser had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

For the Charge, Levi Randolph had a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds. J.P. Macura scored 23 points. Tyler Cook came off the bench to score 19 points and 9 rebounds. Alex Robinson scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.

The Lakeland Magic hit the road to take on the College Park SkyHawks in an early matinee on Sunday, January 5 at 2pm. The game will be available on NBAGLeague.com.
