West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Koley Kolberg pitched seven innings for South Bend and combined with two relievers to shutout the Whitecaps, 4-0.

The loss prevented the Whitecaps from clinching a playoff berth, although a Lansing loss later in the evening would assure that West Michigan reaches the post season.

Whitecaps starter Andrew Kown gave up four runs, but only one of those runs was earned. Kown walked five in six innings and took the loss.

The first South Bend run scored on a double play in the third inning. Two more runs scored in the fourth. One was on an error by third baseman Wilkin Ramirez. The other came on a single from Brandon Simon to make the score 3-0.

Mark Reynolds delivered an RBI double for a 4-0 Silver Hawk lead in the sixth. Kevin Ardoin pitched three shutout innings of relief for the Whitecaps and faced the minimum nine batters, despite allowing a walk. Chris Robinson went 2-for-4 to lead the West Michigan offense, which has tallied just one run in the last 22 innings.
