Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OH -- The Dayton Dragons broke a 3-3 tie on a two-out RBI single by Adam Rosales in the bottom of the eighth inning on Monday night at Fifth Third Field. Rosales had three hits on the evening and three Dayton pitchers struck out thirteen Timber Rattler batters.
Chris Kroski put the Dragons in front 1-0 with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
Dayton (56-77 overall, 26-37 second half) extended their lead on a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the third inning by Jeremiah Piepkorn and Trevor Lawhorn.
The Rattlers (73-60, 34-29) got their first run of the game on a solo homer by Yung Chi Chen to start the fourth inning. But, that was all the Rattlers would get off Dayton starter Omar Segovia. The left-hander struck out eight in five innings and turned things over to Homer Bailey in the sixth.
But, Bailey couldn't hold the lead. He walked Jack Arroyo to start the inning. Chen knocked in Arroyo with a single to right. Mike Wilson was at the plate with two out and Chen at second base. Wilson hit a sharp grounder through the legs of third baseman Bradley Key for an error, an unearned run, and a tie ballgame.
Dayton got a one out double by Jordan Belcher in the bottom of the eighth inning off Donny Langdon. Langdon got the second out. Then, Eric O'Flaherty entered the game. The Rattler closer got ahead of Rosales 1-2 in the count, but gave up an RBI single to left, the Dragons took a 4-3 lead.
Wisconsin got a one out single in the ninth, but Jay Sanders got a game ending double play to finish off the Rattlers.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night. Julio Santiago (5-3, 4.34ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. James Avery (1-1, 4.00ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Dragons. Game time is 6:00pm CDT.
