Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - On a night where everything fell into place for the Dayton Dragons (26-37, 56-77), Omar Segovia (ND) and Homer Bailey's (8-4) remarkable efforts on the mound were backed-up by two Dragon momentum-surging homers in a 4-3 Dayton win over the Wisconsin TimberRattlers (73-60, 34-29) on Monday night at Fifth Third Field.

The Dragons, who were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with Southwest Michigan's victory over Kane County, got the game-winning blast in the eighth on Adam Rosales' RBI single off Eric O'Flaherty (ND). Jordan Belcher, who scored on the hit, started the Dragons rally with a one-out double off Donny Langdon (L, 0-2).

Dayton started out on the right foot with a commanding 3-0 lead, breaking through in the first inning on Chris Kroski's RBI single which scored Cody Strait. The Dragons then turned on the jets in the third inning with two solo home runs in three hitters off starter Cibney Bello (ND) for the three-run cushion. Jeremiah Piepkorn led off the inning with his 21st dinger on the year, followed by Trevor Lawhorn's monster solo homer which deflected off the scoreboard.

Wisconsin, who is on their way to a Midwest League playoff berth via the first-half Western Division title, fought back to tie the game at three apiece. Segovia, who had his five-inning, three-hit and eight-strikeout performance wasted in the rally, allowed the TimberRattlers on the board with Yung Chi Chen's mammoth solo homer to lead-off the fifth.

Bailey relieved Segovia in the sixth but promptly gave up two runs to knot the game, on Chen's RBI single and Mike Wilson's grounder which skipped through Bradley Key's legs at third for an error, allowing Chen to score with the tying run.

Bailey settled down to position himself for the victory, allowing only one more runner on-base through his three innings of relief with a two-out walk to Chen in the eighth. Bailey complimented his efforts with a one-hit performance, allowing an earned run, two walks and three strikeouts. Jared Sanders (SV, 6) picked up his first save since May with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Dragons have now won four out of five meetings this season with the Timbe Rattlers, and were paced by Rosales' performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles, an RBI and a hit-by-pitch. Chen did the most damage for Wisconsin, going 2-for-3 with the homer, two RBI's and a walk. Jeff Clement and Matt Tuiasosopo, the Seattle Mariners 2005 and '04 first-round picks respectively, were clamped down by going a combined 0-for-7 in the game.

The Dragons continue their four-game series with TimberRattlers Tuesday night at 7pm, when right-hander James Avery goes head-to-head with lefty Julio Santiago. The game can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1410-AM and on the Internet at www.daytondragons.com, with the pre-game show beginning at 6:30 pm.
