Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS -- Mycal Jones homered after being activated from the disabled list today and the Mississippi Braves defeated the Huntsville Stars 2-1 in front of 6,018 fans at Trustmark Park Monday night. Tuesday's series finale is scheduled for 7:00 PM. If the M-Braves do not make the playoffs, Tuesday's game will be the final home game for the Braves in 2013.

After defeating the Biscuits, Jacksonville regains the Southern League South Division lead by a half game. Mobile sits second after dropping their contest in Tennessee and the M-Braves remain third but gain a half game and sit one game back. Mississippi (35-28, 73-60) scored two runs on seven hits while Huntsville (27-37, 56-76) plated its only run on three hits. The Stars committed three errors.

Gus Schlosser (7-5) held the Stars to just one earned run on three hits, a homer and one walk. He struck out seven batters in seven innings of work. Juan Jaime worked a scoreless eighth inning to record his ninth hold. Ryne Harper (S, 10) came on to record the final three outs and nail down the save.

The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the first. Christian Bethancourt singled and Christian Marrero walked to start the inning. Edward Salcedo then delivered a RBI-single to center field, giving Mississippi the early advantage.

In his first game since returning from the disabled list, Jones blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to extend the M-Braves lead to 2-0. It was Jones' fourth long ball of the season.

Huntsville cut the Braves lead to 2-1 in the seventh when Jason Rogers launched his 22nd homer of the season, a solo shot to left field.

Ariel Pena (7-9) gave up two earned runs on five hits and two walks while fanning five in five innings pitched.

In Tuesday's series finale at Trustmark Park, M-Braves right-hander Mitch Atkins (5-2, 3.15) takes on Stars righty Brooks Hall (2-4, 4.10). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
