Jabari Blash Named Southern League Hitter of the Week

Jackson, Tenn - The Southern League announced today that Jackson outfielder Jabari Blash has been named the Southern League's Hitter of the Week for the week August 19-25. During the past week Blash batted .500 (12x24) with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 6 RBIs, 4 runs, 14 walks and 10 RBIs in 9 games. Blash also posted a .692 on-base percentage this week. Blash joins Julio Morban and Ji-Man Choi as winners of the award this season.

Since being promoted from A+ High Desert on August 2 he is batting .315 (23x73) with 3 doubles, 6 home runs and 12 RBIs and a .457 on-base percentage in 22 games. He has hit safely in each of his last 8 games, batting .417 (10x24) with 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 6 RBI and 13 walks. Blash had a streak of reaching base in 10 straight plate appearances snapped on Sunday night after going 1-for-4. He has a hit in 16 of his first 22 Double-A games batting. Blash hit a home run in his first Jackson at-bat on August 2 at Mobile. He hit 2 home runs vs. Montgomery on August 15. He leads the Mariners farm system with 22 home runs this season.

Blash was drafted by Seattle in the 8th round in 2009 out of Miami Dade Community College (FL). He attended Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

Mississippi Braves' pitcher Gary Moran was named the league's Pitcher of the Week.
