Lynx Win On Late Rally
April 19, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release
It was a wild finish at Lynx Stadium as the Lynx came back with two runs in the bottom of the 8th to beat the Charlotte Knights 5-4.
The win improves the Lynx record to the .500 mark (5-5) and drops the Knights to 5-8.
Player Of The Game: Catcher Chris Coste had a two-RBI double and scored a run in the Lynx 5-4 win over Charlotte. Another run scored on Coste's fielder's choice in the 8th.
Game Recap: The starting pitchers mowed through both lineups for the first three innings, matching zero for zero until the bottom of the 4th. Lou Collier singled and moved to second base on a Gary Burnham walk before Chris Coste cashed them both in with his double to left field. Lynx starter Matt Childers finished the day with 6.0 shutout innings, striking out three Knights before giving way to the bullpen. The Knights narrowed the gap with a run in the 7th when Andy Gonzalez hit an inside-the-park home run off Chris Roberson's glove as Roberson went crashing into the centrefield wall. Roberson would get that run back, though, cashing in Brennan King in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead back up to two runs. But the Knights wouldn't go away, scoring three runs in the top of the 8th to take a late lead. But fate was with the home side as the Lynx mounted one final surge, scoring two runs. Lou Collier scored on a Chris Coste fielder's choice before Jim Rushford cashed in Coste for the final run and the 5-4 Lynx win.
Next Game: The Lynx host the Knights in the fourth and final game of their four-game series Friday night at Lynx Stadium. Game time is 6:05pm.
Probable Pitchers: Friday vs. Charlotte, 6:05 pm, Ottawa LHP Jim Crowell (0-0, 33.75) vs. RHP Gavin Floyd (0-1, 3.00)
