Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight the Buffalo Bisons take on the Toledo Mud Hens in the third game of a four-game series from Fifth Third Field (6:30 p.m.). With the series tied at a game a piece, the Herd will be looking to build off yesterday's 4-0 victory. On the mound for the Bisons will RHP Sean Smith. Smith made his Triple-A debut in relief on April 11, allowing four runs in three innings of work. Toledo will counter with RHP Yorman Bazardo, who last pitched on Saturday against Durham (4.0IP, 2ER).
GREAT START: The Bisons are 8-2 for only the fourth time in the Modern Era (1985 on). Buffalo also got off to 8-2 starts during the 1996, 2000 and 2001 seasons.
MEET MR. SMITH: RHP Sean Smith is making his first Triple-A start today. He was used mainly as a starter in 2006, posting a 10-5 record and 3.88ERA in 25 games (24 starts) with Double-A Akron. The Eastern League All-Star finished last season ranked second on the Aeros in wins and innings pitched (144.0IP) and third in strikeouts (94).
RUN PRODUCERS: Infielder Keith Ginter drove home three of the Bisons four runs yesterday. He now has nine RBI on the season, tying him with Ryan Mulhern for the team league. The two sluggers are tied for sixth in the International League.
EARLY OFFENSE: The Bisons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning yesterday thanks to two-run double by Keith Ginter. In the last three games, the Herd has scored 12 runs in the first inning. On the year, 30 of Buffalo's 55 total runs have been scored in either the first or second inning.
HIT STREAK: Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo comes into today's game with a six-game hit streak. Since April 11, Choo has hit .533 (8-15) with five RBI, four walks and two runs scored. Choo has also reached base in all eight games he's played in this season, posting a Bisons team-high .571 on-base percentage.
MORE SPEED: With his first steal of the season last night, Franklin Gutierrez became the ninth Bisons player with at least one stolen base. Ben Francisco still leads the team with three stolen bags. As a team, the Bisons are 14 of 17 stealing bases this season, good for an 82.4% success rate.
