Gwinnett Stripers News Release
Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves edged the Louisville Bats 3-2 in 11 innings Thursday at The Diamond. The Braves rallied from a 2-0 deficit to improve their season record to 7-3 in their first extra inning game of the season.
Louisville center fielder Dewayne Wise led off the fifth inning with a triple, the Bats' first hit of the game. He later scored on a wild pitch. The Bats added a run in the seventh inning. Aaron Herr and Wise had back-to-back one-out singles followed by an Earl Snyder walk. Herr came home on Anderson Machado's sac fly to left field, to make it 2-0.
Richmond rallied to tie the game in the eighth, when the Braves loaded the bases for the second time in the contest. Martin Prado led off with a walk. Yunel Escobar followed with a single to the Bats' shortstop Anderson Machado. Machado made the stop but threw the ball into right field on the attempt to retire the lead runner at second. Both Prado and Escobar advanced on the throwing error. T.J. Bohn then walked to load the bases for Barbaro Canizares. His deep sac fly to right field chased two runs home to tie the game. The Braves won it in the 11th when Willie Harris legged out an infield single allowing Bohn to score.
Manny Acosta picked up the win. Steve Kelly took the loss. Harris and Escobar each had three hits for the Braves. Ex-R-Brave Dewayne Wise had two hits for the Bats.
Richmond opens an eight game road trip at Indianapolis Friday at 7 PM. Buddy Carlyle will pitch for the Braves vs. the Indians Shane Youman.
