Ottawa Lynx News Release
The Ottawa Lynx broke open a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on route to a 5-2 victory over Toledo on Thursday night. Lynx starter Brian Burres was brilliant for the Lynx, giving up only two hits in 7.0 scoreless innings of work. 1B Andy Tracy homered and drove in two runs for the Lynx.
The win improves the Lynx record to 26-28 on the season. Player Of The Game: Lynx starter Brian Burres was terrific, throwing 7.0 shutout innings in collecting his 4th win.
Game Recap: The first game of this eight game homestand started as a pitcher's duel, with Lynx starter Brian Burres and Toledo's Chad Durbin keeping both teams off the board for the first six innings.
After Burres worked out of a jam in the top of the 7th, the Lynx responded in the bottom of the inning. With one out, 1B Andy Tracy gave the Lynx the lead when he blasted his team-leading 9th homer of the year to right. OF Luis Terrero followed with a double to right-center and then DH Howie Clark was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second for RF Keith Reed. Reed came through with a line-drive double to left, scoring both Terrero and Clark to give the Lynx a 3-0 lead.
The Mud Hens got back into the game in the 8th when a two-out infield error was followed by a double by Dan Kelly to cut the lead to two. Toledo would load the bases with two out, but a great diving play by 2B Eddy Garabito would put an end to inning and the rally. The Lynx got that run back in the bottom of the inning. Eddy Garabito hit a one-out double and moved to third on a wild pitch. After 3B Fernando Tatis walked to put runners on the corners, Andy Tracy bounded a two hopper to Toledo first baseman Josh Phelps, whose throw home was not in time to catch a sliding Garabito as the Lynx took a 4-1 lead. One out later Howie Clark lined a single to right, plating Tatis to up Ottawa's lead to four. RHP Julio Manon gave up one run, but recorded the last three outs for the Lynx in a 5-2 triumph.
