TONIGHT'S GAME: The first of a four game series and the fist of eight meetings with the SkyChiefs, the first of four at The Diamond. Game five of an eight game homestand (Richmond is 1-3). The Braves were 2-6 vs. the SkyChiefs last season, 0-4 at The Diamond. This is the 21st of 48 games vs. North Division opponents, Richmond is 7-13 vs. the North. The 13th of 24 home games vs. North Division opponents (Richmond is 6-6). Braves are 335-303 vs. the SkyChiefs all-time. The Braves are fourth in the South, 15.5 and a half games behind first place Charlotte. The SkyChiefs are sixth in the North, eight games out of first.

TUESDAY'S GAME: The Charlotte Knights beat the Braves 8-2 Tuesday at The Diamond. The Knights carried a shutout into the ninth inning as they beat the Braves for the third time in four games. Charlotte jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third on an RBI ground out by Jerry Owens and a run-scoring double by Jorge Velandia. The Knights stretched their lead to 3-0 in the fourth on an RBI single by Tony Torcato. Charlotte blew the game open with a three run sixth. Torcato and Ryan Sweeney chased runs home with singles. Chris Stewart knocked in a run with a ground out. The Knights pushed their lead to 8-0 in the ninth on a two run single by Casey Rogowski. The Braves salvaged two runs in the home half. Scott Thorman crushed a home run and Cesar Crespo produced a run with a single. Sean Tracey carried a no-hitter into the sixth and worked seven scoreless innings to earn the win. Wayne Franklin took the loss. Torcato had three hits for the Knights. Crespo singled and walked twice for the Braves.

AS THE ROSTER TURNS: 1B James Jurries has been activated from the DL. Jurries has not played since April 19. He suffered a fractured knee when he was struck by a ball in batting practice 4/20. He missed 38 games while on the DL. The Braves have added RHP Lance Cormier (optioned down by Atlanta). Cormier was 2-1 6.10 in 19 games with Atlanta. Five current R-Braves (Cormier, Phil Moylan, Tony Pena, Chuck James, and Martin Prado) have seen action with Atlanta this season. The Braves now have an active roster of 24 (12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders, and four outfielders) plus one player on a MLB rehab assignment. The Braves have made 57 roster moves this season. 11 different R-Braves have earned MLB call-ups. The Braves have promoted eight players from Mississippi this season. The Braves have made 10 roster moves this week.

CRUNCHY NUMBERS: Bill McCarthy has hits in seven straight games (11-25 .440). Cesar Crespo has a six game hitting streak (7-19 .368). RHP Phil Stockman has worked his last 12 innings without allowing a run and permitting just two hits. He has not allowed a run over 10 innings in five appearances on the road. All three runs allowed by Stockman came in one appearance. He did not allow a run in 7.2 Double-A innings before coming to Richmond. Martin Prado made his Triple-A debut as a third baseman Tuesday. It was his first appearance at third since 2003.

LEADING THE WAY: Kevin Barry is sixth in the IL in ERA and fourth in strikeouts. Wes Timmons is fifth in batting average (.316). He leads the league in on base percentage (.428). Scott Thorman is fourth in hits with 57. The Braves are second in the IL in stolen base percentage. They have swiped 43 and have been caught 13 times (77%). Charlotte leads the league at 79%.

PICKIN' IT: The Braves are tied for second in the IL in fielding percentage. They are tied for second in total chances. The Braves are on a pace to break the franchise record for fewest errors in a season (97 in 2004). The Braves have started at leas three players at every position except second base.
