Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Syracuse SkyChiefs 4-0 Thursday at The Diamond. Three Braves pitchers shutout the Chiefs on five hits as the Braves took the opener of a four game series.
The Braves grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Scott Thorman and an RBI single by Carlos Mendez. The Braves added insurance in the eighth on a two run home run by Michael Ryan.
Braves pitchers claimed 13 strikeout victims. Brian O'Connor fanned six in five scoreless innings to earn the win. Peter Moylan struck out six in three innings. Manny Acosta closed the game with one strikeout. Four Braves had two hits each to lead a 12 hit attack.
The Braves and Syracuse battle again Friday starting at 7 PM. Ricardo Rodriguez will pitch for the Braves against David Purcey.
