Lynx Lose 2-0 On Opening Night

October 17, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

Opening night featured a hyped up crowd, special introductions, and even a visit from the ZooperStars, but the Augusta Lynx could not find the net in a 2-0 loss to the Florida Everblades Friday night in front of 4,268 fans at the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center.

Neither team would score for the first two periods, but both certainly had opportunities. Augusta had several power play chances, including a bifurcated five-minute major power play in the second period, but failed to mark. Florida also had their chances, but could not connect on Augusta goaltender Jason Saal, who made 27 saves in the contest.

Finally, in the third period, Florida broke through with 4:59 remaining. Brian McCullough scored on the power play from Keith Anderson and Brent McDonald to make it 1-0, with McDonald adding a goal from Anderson and McCullough at 18:35 to pad the lead. Despite a late surge by the Lynx, they could not score and Florida ended up with a 2-0 victory to start their season. Jeff Maund was solid in goal, making 29 stops for the win and the shutout.

The same two teams hook up again tomorrow night at 7:35 pm, and after that will not face each other again until February 20th of next year. Tickets are on sale now through the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center, all TicketMaster outlets, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (706) 828-7700. Seats are $12, $10, and $8, with discounts available for seniors, students, and military personnel.
