Bullies Open Season on the Wild Side

October 17, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY (NJ)-- The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies began the defense of their Kelly Cup Championship on Friday night with a 7-3 drubbing of the expansion Texas Wildcatters in front of a crowd of 5,096.

Several of the returnees from last year's team figured prominently in the outcome as second-year stalwart Jim Henkel (Hazlet, NJ) picked up right from where he left off last season, notching a hat trick to begin the year. Third year Bully Luke Curtin (St. Paul, MN) added two goals, one coming on a rocket shot from just inside the blue line, past Wildcatters goaltender Jason Cugnet. Defensive leader Kirk Furey (Glace Bay, NS) led the Atlantic City blue liners and the team with a +4 on the night.

The newest Bullies proved to fit right into the team's winning formula as Pierre-Luc Sleigher (Montreal, PQ) and Jim Leger (Saugus, MA) each tallied a goal apiece. Newly acquired defenseman Kam White (Chicago, IL) added two assists in his Boardwalk Bullies debut. Scott Stirling (Hull, MA), 1-0-0 earned the victory in net, making 25 stops on the night.

The Wildcatters Cugnet 0-0-1 took the loss, while absorbing 34 shots.

Atlantic City returns to action again tomorrow night as they welcome interstate rival Trenton to Boardwalk Hall for the first of the rivals' ten match-ups this season. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
