Lynx Inch Closer to Border Cup

March 30, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx, by virtue of Thursday's 3-2 shootout win, have won the Border Cup in this year's season series with the Columbia Inferno. After a two-year hiatus, the Cup will return to Augusta for the upcoming 2005-06 Season.

Thursday's game saw the Lynx fall behind 2-0 before rallying with a pair of third period goals from Doug Wright and Louis Goulet. Goulet's goal came with the Lynx net empty for the extra attacker at 19:08 of the third period. Overtime produced no scoring, and in the shootout Augusta marked twice while Columbia failed to beat Jason Saal on all four attempts to give the Lynx the win.

Friday and Saturday saw the Lynx fall in disappointing fashion to the Pensacola Ice Pilots 8-1 and 7-2. Doug Wright score the only goal on Friday night, while Ken Magowan had both markers in Saturday's loss.

What's Next

Tuesday, March 29th @ Columbia

The battle for the Border Cup hits its climax Tuesday. The Lynx need a win in order to regain the trophy for the city of Augusta, where it has not resided since 2001-02.

Friday, April 1st @ Gwinnett

Augusta and Gwinnett face each other three more times this year with bragging rights on the line. The Lynx lead the season series 4-2-1. Jeff Campbell leads all goal scorers with six in seven games, while Jamie Johnson leads Lynx scorers with three goals and 10 points in the series.

Saturday, April 2nd @ South Carolina

Augusta and South Carolina will meet twice in four days, staring in Charleston, SC on Saturday night. Jason Saal has a 1.77 GAA against the Stingrays this year, but South Carolina's picture in net has changed dramatically from opening night. Both Kirk Daubenspeck and Maxime Daigneault have been recalled to Portland of the AHL for quite some time, leaving the load on the shoulders of Justin Eddy. Eddy has appeared in 22 of South Carolina's last 23 games, going 13-5-4 with a 2.84 GAA and a .921 save percentage.
