Fresno Falcons News Release
LAS VEGAS - Dan Tessier recorded a goal and an assist, including the game-winning goal early in the third period, and Jamie Hodson made 28 saves to help lead the Fresno Falcons to a 4-2 victory against the Las Vegas Wranglers at The Orleans Arena. The victory was Fresno's eighth in a row over Las Vegas to finish the teams' season series.
After a scoreless first period, Las Vegas opened the scoring 7:32 into the second. The Wranglers kept Fresno pinned in its own zone for several consecutive shifts before finally finding the back of the net off a shot from below the hashmarks through a screen by Deryk Engelland. The Falcons then used a soft goal to help turn the tide in their favor. David Brisson whipped a wrist shot toward Vegas goaltender Marc Magliarditi that bounced off his stick and into the net at 11:15 to tie the game at one. Then at 16:27 Charles Simard held a puck in at the blueline and walked all the way to the doorstep before slotting the puck past Magliarditi for his seventh of the year to give Fresno a 2-1 edge heading to the third.
The Falcons gave themselves some insurance early in the final period when Tessier and Terry Marchant worked a pretty give-and-go inside the Las Vegas zone with the former finishing for his 23rd of the season at 3:36. Las Vegas tried to make things interesting down the stretch as Nick Anderson scored his first professional goal at 13:10, but Anderson's former teammate at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Brett Hammond, added an empty-netter at 18:40 to seal Fresno's 4-2 victory.
The win lifts Fresno to 37-22-8 with 82 points, two points behind the fourth-place Idaho Steelheads and four points behind both the second-place Long Beach Ice Dogs and Bakersfield Condors in the four-team race for the final three playoff spots out of the West Division.
The Falcons next head to Bakersfield to battle the Condors on April 1 at 7 p.m. All of the live play-by-play action may be heard and/or seen live courtesy of B2 Networks by logging onto the Falcons home page at www.fresnofalcons.com. Fresno then returns home following this five-game road trip to host the Alaska Aces on Saturday, Apr. 2, at Save Mart Center at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at the Save Mart Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
