Augusta Lynx News Release

The Columbia Inferno reversed a season-long trend and found their power play against the Augusta Lynx Tuesday night, scoring twice in the first period with the man advantage en route to a 5-2 win.

Columbia jump started the contest on a pair of Eric Boulton power play goals, the first at 3:13 of the opening frame, and the second at 9:52. A long shot from just inside the Lynx blue line would elude Jason Saal at 15:34 off the stick of Brad Ralph to make it 3-0, but the Lynx did come back before the end of the period. Working their third power play advantage, Doug Wright tipped a puck in behind Mike Minard at 19:23 to bring the Lynx back within two after 20 minutes of play.

Newcomer Chad Collins would replace Saal in the Lynx net for the second period. Collins was welcomed by Bryson Busniuk at 7:15 to make it a 4-1 game with Smith picking up his third assist of the game on the marker. A late scrap between Steve Burgess and Treavor Peterson capped a chippy period as the teams headed to the locker room.

Colt King would pull Augusta within two with an unassisted goal at 17:08 of the third period, picking off a Minard clearing attempt and wrapping it into the Inferno goal to make it 4-2. Needing a pair to even the contest, the Lynx pulled Collins in favor of the extra attacker and ceded an insurance goal to Matt Ulwelling, who hit the empty net at 19:45 for a 5-2 final.

Augusta will get back to action on Friday in Gwinnett against the Gladiators for a 7:30 pm game. Pre-game show kicks off one half-hour prior to puck drop on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
