Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. â Philadelphia Flyers broadcaster and Comcast SportsNet analyst Steve Coates will join the "Voice of the Bullies" Dan Weiss tonight as a special guest color commentator when the Bullies host the Wheeling Nailers at 7:05PM at Historic Boardwalk Hall. The game can be heard live on the SurferNetwork at www.boardwalkbullies.com beginning with "Bullies Countdown" at 6:45PM.
"I think this will be a real treat for our fans who listen to the games, and I'm looking forward to working with a professional like Steve," said Weiss. "With playoff hockey already upon us, who better to have than Steve Coates who can break it all down and analyze it."
Famous for "Coatesy's Corner" which appears in between the first and second periods of Flyers television broadcasts, Coates is in his 23rd year of broadcasting since being invited to do games on the radio with the late Flyers announcer Gene Hart back in 1980. He has been with the Flyers organization ever since.
A graduate of Michigan Tech University, Coates enjoyed an eight-year professional career that included five games with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1976-77 season. His best season came in his rookie year of 1973-74 when he tallied 31 goals and 70 points with the former Des Moines Capitols of the International Hockey League. Coates also played 74 games with the old Philadelphia Firebirds of the American Hockey League during the 1978-79 season.
