Augusta Lynx News Release
AUGUSTA, Ga.− Ryan Munce made 39 saves and Ryan Cruthers scored two goals and added an assist as the Mississippi Sea Wolves spoiled opening night for the Lynx with a 4-2 victory in front of 3,588 at James Brown Arena in Augusta. Matt Auffrey and Captain Aaron Slattengren tallied goals for the home team in the defeat.
Cruthers got the scoring started with 1:55 left in the first period as he turned around and slapped a shot past Lynx goaltender Joel Martin to give Mississippi a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
The Lynx did not waste any time to respond as 1:29 into the second, Auffrey fired a shot past Munce for a power play goal to even the score at one. However, 56 seconds later, Cruthers answered to give Mississippi the lead back at 2-1. Kyle McAllister scored on the power play and Mark Rooneem's goal made it three unanswered and Mississippi was ahead 4-1 after two periods of play.
The Lynx created some third period excitement when the puck went off of Slattengren in front of the net. The power play goal cut the Mississippi lead to two. Augusta had some good late chances including a 6 on 3 power play with the goaltender pulled, but Munce stoned several Lynx shots and the Sea Wolves held on for the 4-2 win. The Lynx out shot Mississippi in the game 41-18, going 2 for 11 on the power play while holding Mississippi to a 1 for 9 night on the man advantage.
The game involved some physical play as Patrick Bordeleau was involved in a fight with Neil Smith 3:32 into the game and the Lynx featured some heavy hits in the contest.
The Lynx are right back at it as they visit Charleston to take on the South Carolina Stingrays in their first road game of the season. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on News Talk Sports 1630 am. This game will be the first of seven consecutive away from Augusta.
The Lynx return to the James Brown Arena on Friday, Nov. 7th to take on the Charlotte Checkers at 7:30 p.m. for Support the Troops and NASCAR Night. Showcars from Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. will be on hand. Season tickets, group tickets, and birthday packages are all available by calling 706.724.4423 or by logging on to AugustaLynx.com.
