Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

AUGUSTA, GA- Ryan Cruthers scored a pair of goals and Ryan Munce made 39 saves as the Sea Wolves took the season opener from the Augusta Lynx 4-2 at James Brown Arena in Augusta.

After being denied on several good chances during an early power play, Ryan Cruthers took Mike Berry's pass, walked out of the left wing corner and let a shot go that was deflected over Augusta goaltender Joel Martin's shoulder to give the Sea Wolves a 1-0 lead at the 18:05 mark of the first period.

Matt Auffrey got Augusta on the board early in the second period when he was able to hammer Aaron Slattengran's pass through the crease past the Sea Wolves Ryan Munce at 1:29. Mississippi answered back just 54 seconds later when Cruthers picked up his second of the night from Kyle McAllister at 2:23. McAllister picked up his second point of the game when he took a pass from Cruthers and blasted it past Martin for a power play goal at 5:32 of the second. Mark Rooneem extended the lead to three goals for Mississippi when his shot from the right circle trickled through the pads of Martin and into the net at 9:48.

Augusta would get a power-play goal from Slattengren at 14:39 of the third period, but Mississippi weathered a storm of power plays late in the third period behind strong goaltending from Munce to pull out the victory.

Munce made 39 saves as he improved his record to 1-0-0 for the season, and Mississippi was 1-for-8 on the power play.
