Augusta Lynx News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators continued their season-long dominance of the Augusta Lynx Tuesday night, taking a 4-1 win at home to kick off the week for both teams.

The Lynx came out flying on their first shift of the game, putting three shots on the Gwinnett goal in under 20 seconds. But as it turned out, that was the offensive high point of the period for the Lynx who gave up a Steve Slonina goal at 10:41 and trailed 1-0 after the first period. Chris Durno and Joe Bourne picked up the assists on the goal for the Gladiators.

Gwinnett doubled their lead at the 6:03 mark of the second stanza when Kris Goodjohn tipped a Slonina pass just under the crossbar to make it a 2-0 game. Durno added his second assist of the night on the goal. Later, Augusta would fail to capitalize on a 4-on-3 power play, despite having several good scoring chances during the man advantage.

Once again Gwinnett would find the score sheet at 2:29 of the third period when Anthony Aquino put his team ahead by three goals with an off-angle shot that managed to elude Jason Saal in the Lynx cage. Jim Jackson picked up the assist on the goal for a 3-0 lead, but the Lynx offense finally found the net shortly thereafter. Terry Marchant would score on a backhander at 3:53 from in front of the Gladiator net with help from Brandon Doria to give the Lynx life at 3-1. But despite tremendous offensive pressure on Gwinnett, the Lynx could manage no further scoring, while the Gladiators added an empty net goal from Kevin Doell at 19:36 to finish off a 4-1 final. Saal made 37 saves for Augusta in the loss, while Trevor Prior stopped 33 Lynx shots to earn the win. Augusta is now 227-28-7 on the year, and 0-4-1 against the Gladiators this season.

Augusta is back in action this weekend with games Friday against Charlotte, Saturday against Gwinnett, and a Sunday matinee versus Roanoke. All three games will take place at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center, with tickets available through the Civic Center Box Office, all TicketMaster locations, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (706) 828-7700.
