Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Springfield Cardinals used four pitchers to combine for a six-hit shut-out on Monday afternoon, taking the final game of their series in Tulsa, with a 5-0 win over the Drillers. The win for the Cards gives them just a 2-5 road trip, but they're still in first place by two games over the other three teams in the North Division.

Cards' starter Lance Lynn was impressive in his Texas League debut, allowing five hits and two walks, while fanning a season-best six batters over five innings. Lynn allowed the lead-off man to reach in all five innings, but pitched around it in every instance.

Not only was Lynn (1-0) solid on the hill, he also doubled home a pair of runs in his first pro at-bat.

With Andrew Brown aboard via an error and Tony Cruz at second on a double, Lynn ripped a two-out double off of Tulsa starter Keith Weiser (1-2), putting the Cardinals on the board at 2-0 in the second inning.

Brown and Cruz, who combined to score all five Springfield runs, got going again in the fourth. Brown opened the inning with a single, then came home on Cruz's first home run of the year, giving Springfield a 4-0 lead.

Antonio DeJesus' sac fly gave the Cards a 5-0 lead in the sixth, as he scored Brown, who opened the inning with his second hit of the day.

The five runs would be plenty for the Cards on Monday, as Pete Parise went two innings and Tyler Norrick and Francisco Samuel each worked a scoreless frame to give Springfield their first blanking of the year.

The Cards return to Hammons Field on Tuesday, taking on the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at 7:10pm in the first game of a four-game home stand. Brandon Dickson (1-1) will take on Blake Wood (1-0) in the series-opener.

Tuesday night will be a Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Hammons Field. It's also Semper Fi Night, as we honor the men and women of the United States Marines. Tickets are available by calling (417) 863-2143 or online at springfieldcardinals.com. Escape to Hammons Field....Go Cards!
