Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans had their four-game winning streak snapped on Friday night as the Lynchburg Hillcats walked off the Birds 4-3 from City Stadium.
Jack Patterson toed the rubber to start the ballgame in his first appearance at the High-A level and he dominated. Patterson tossed four shutout innings for the Pelicans and struck out four.
The Pelicans (9-7, 30-53) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning when Kevonte Mitchell blasted his tenth homer of the season, a solo shot, that gave the Birds a 1-0 lead.
The advantage was short-lived for the Birds as Lynchburg (10-6, 42-41) took the lead with a pair of runs scored in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Tyler Friis led the inning off with a solo home run that tied the game up at 1-1 and Lynchburg took a 2-1 lead when Jodd Carter blasted an RBI single off of Enrique De Los Rios that gave Lynchburg their first lead of the series.
In the eighth inning, the Pelicans found some more late inning magic. After The Birds loaded the bases on a hit by pitch and a couple of singles, Tyler Durna grounded into a fielders choice which allowed D.J. Wilson to score from third to even the score. On the same play, the shortstop Friis threw the ball away on the relay first and Jimmy Herron scooted around third to put the Birds ahead 3-2.
After the Hillcats put the winning run on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Pelicans turned to Jesus Camargo who hit Mitch Reeves with a pitch to load the bases. With the bases full, Gavin Collins was also hit by a pitch and a run scored to knot the game at 3-3 before Will Benson walked it off for the Hillcats with an RBI single to right that gave Lynchburg the 4-3 win.
The Pelicans will go for their fourth-straight series win on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in the series finale. RHP Javier Assad (2-5, 3.42) will take the hill for the Pelicans against LHP Kirk McCarty(1-2, 5.14) for the Hillcats.
Coverage will begin at 5:45 p.m. on the Pelicans Baseball Network which is available on the TuneIn App, MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast and MiLB First Pitch app.
