Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Erik Huber's career night lifted Lynchburg to an 11-4 victory over Frederick at Harry Grove Stadium Sunday night. Huber went 6-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Hillcats scored 11 runs and amassed a season-high 20 hits. Huber's six hits broke his previous single-game high in hits was four, which he had accomplished six times in his career. Lynchburg will meet Wilmington at Frawley Stadium at 7:05 p.m. Monday.

The victory gave Lynchburg a series victory as the Cats took two of three from Frederick in the three-game set.

The Cats seized the early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Jared Keel drew a one-out walk from Frederick starter Sean Gleason and advanced to third on a single by Erik Huber. After Gleason plunked Eric Fryer to load the bases, Eddie Prasch hit a two-run single that plated Keel and Huber to put Lynchburg in front 2-0.

Lynchburg added to its lead in the third inning. Kent Sakamoto hit a one-out single and Kris Watts followed with an RBI double. After Gleason retired Keel, Huber delivered an RBI single that scored Watts and extended the Cats' advantage to 4-0.

The Cats struck for three more runs in the top of the fifth. Gleason retired Watts to begin the inning, but surrendered consecutive singles to Keel and Huber. Fryer knocked in Keel with an RBI single and Prasch followed with an RBI single that plated Huber.

Following a pitching change, Keys reliever Joe Esposito struck out Angel Gonzalez before walking Alex Presley to load the bases. Jordy Mercer drew a walk from Esposito, which enabled Fryer to trot home from third and give Lynchburg a commanding 7-0 lead.

Frederick finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Lynchburg reliever Mike Colla retired the first two Frederick batters before allowing a single to Ryan Adams. Bobby Stevens drove in Adams with an RBI double to reduce the deficit to 7-1.

The Keys drew closer with a pair of runs in the seventh. Matt Angle singled to start the frame. Colla retired the next two Frederick batters before allowing a single to Caleb Joseph. Tyler Henson followed with a two-run double that scored Angle and Joseph and made it a 7-3 contest.

Lynchburg tacked on three runs in the top of the eighth to seal the victory. Mercer singled to begin the inning and was erased at second base when Sakamoto hit into a force out. Watts drew a walk from Esposito and Keel ripped an RBI double that scored Sakamoto.

After Esposito was lifted for Jake Stevens, Huber delivered an RBI single - his fifth hit of the night- that plated Watts and allowed Keel to take third base. Keel scored later in the inning on a wild pitch, which gave the Cats a 10-3 lead.

Huber picked up his sixth hit with an RBI double in the ninth that scored Watts to make it an 11-3 game. Frederick scored a run in the bottom of the ninth on Brandon Waring's RBI double.

Colla (5-1) earned the win for Lynchburg while Gleason (2-4) took the loss. Huber's six hits raised his batting average to .406 (13-for-32) in eight games with Lynchburg since his promotion from Low-A West Virginia July 18.

The Hillcats will take on Wilmington in the opener of a three-game series at Frawley Stadium Monday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
