Frederick Keys News Release

After two tightly contested ball games to start off this series, the Lynchburg Hillcats blew out the Frederick Keys in Sunday night's contest, as they won the rubber game 11-4.

Frederick had RHP Sean Gleason on the hill, and he struggled. The Hillcats scored seven times against Gleason on 14 hits in just 4.1 innings of work. After scoring twice in the second, and two more times in the third, the Hillcats sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth. Three runs came across on four hits, giving Lynchburg a 7-0 lead.

The Keys finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth. With two men down, 2B Ryan Adams singled. The next batter, DH Bobby Stevens, knocked in Adams with a double, making it a 7-1 game.

Frederick made it a ball game again in the seventh. With CF Matt Angle on first and two men down, C Caleb Joseph extended the inning with a single. LF Tyler Henson then knocked them both in with a double to left, cutting the deficit to four.

The Hillcats, however, pulled away for good in the eighth. For the second time that game, they sent nine batters to the plate, scoring three runs on three hits to blow the game wide open. They led 10-3.

Each club tacked on a run in the ninth to make it an 11-4 final.

Lynchburg RF Eric Huber had a career day. Huber had six hits on the night in six at bats. He also knocked in three runs, and scored twice.

Angle collected four hits in the loss.

RHP Michael Colla got the win in relief for Lynchburg. He surrendered three runs in 2.2 innings, but nevertheless improves to 5-1. Gleason was credited with the loss, dropping to 2-4.

The Keys open up a three-game set with the Salem Red Sox on Monday night at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. It's Kids Eat Free Monday at the ballpark. All kids 12 and under will receive a voucher for a free hot dog, bag of chips and drink upon entering the stadium. For ticket info, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
