THE HILLCATS: Wednesday, the 'Cats lost to the Potomac Nationals 6-3...INF Barrett Kleinknecht hit a his third home run in four night to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth...SS Andrelton Simmons committed a two-out throwing in error in eighth...Four unearned runs eventually scored in the frame...INF Joey Terdoslavich hit his 18th home run of the season in the bottom of the ninth inning but it wasn't enough as Lynchburg lost the game and their chances at the playoffs...The Hillcats are now 28-35 in the second half...They sit in third place in the Northern Division 9.0 games behind the Frederick Keys in first place...

VS. POTOMAC: The Hillcats are 9-9 against the Nationals this season...This is the final series between the two teams this year...The road team is13-5 on the season series...The home team has not won a series between the clubs in 2011, a will not after the Lynchburg loss last night...Last year, Potomac took the season series 11-8 from Lynchburg...The former Braves Advanced-A affiliate, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, fared even worse dropping 14 of 20 to the Nationals a season ago...

WAIT 'TIL NEXT YEAR: The Potomac Nationals clinched their spot in the playoffs last night with the win over Lynchburg...The Nationals are now one step closer to repeating as Mills Cup Champions...They will face the Frederick Keys in the Northern Divisional Series next week after the regular season closes on Monday...The Hillcats were officially eliminated from playoff contention as Potomac clinched last night and will have to set their sights on next season...

FINISHING STRONG: Lynchburg finished the month of August with a 15-11 record, second-best in the league to Kinston's 16-12 mark...The pitching staff posted a league-best 3.38 ERA...The bats compiled a .278 batting average (3rd) and scored 136 runs (2nd), while hitting 16 home runs, 61 doubles, and seven triples...SS Andrelton Simmons had his best individual month, setting or matching season-bests in average (.324), home runs (1), RBI (14), doubles (11), triples (2), and steals (8)...

YEAR-END ALL-STARS: SS Andrelton Simmons and 1B Joey Terdoslavich were named to the Carolina League year-end All-Star team today...Simmons leads the league in batting average (.304) and hits (151)...His 12.77 plate appearances per strikeout is a league-best mark as well...His 33 doubles rank second in the circuit to Terdoslavich's 50...Terdoslavich also ranks among the league leaders with 18 home runs (5th), 75 RBI (4th), 132 hits (4th), a .515 slugging percentage (2nd), 70 extra-base hits (1st), and 240 total bases (2nd)...

BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Eight members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Atlanta Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes C Christian Bethancourt (12), SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...

THE HOME OF THE WHOPPER: INF Barrett Kleinknecht went 1-for-3 last night with a home run....BK has now homered in three of his last four games...Currently on a four-game hitting streak in which he is 5-for-15 with three RBI and five runs scored...All five hits have gone for extra bases, as he has a pair of doubles to go with his three dingers...After hitting .306 (22-for-72) in 20 May games, Kleinknecht has hit just .190 (37-for-195) from June through August, but looks like he may finish on a high note...

HISTORY BOOKS STILL WAITING: INF Joey Terdoslavich went 1-for-4 last night with a two-run home run in the ninth...The home run was his 18th of the season, very impressive number but Terdoslavich is still looking for a double to carve his name into the record books...He has 50 this season which leads all the minor leagues and is one shy of the All-Time Carolina League single-season record set by Woody Fair with Durham back in 1946...His last double came Thursday in Myrtle Beach...

G-'HOT'ROD: OF Geraldo Rodriguez went 0-for-3 Tuesday night with two walks...Over his last 15 games he is hitting 294 (15-for-51) with eight extra base hits, five doubles and three home runs...He has hit safely in 12 of those 15 games...Last night he snapped an eight-game hitting streak, which included a game he entered late two Thursday's ago and went 1-for-1 in his only plate appearance...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Paul Demny was selected in the sixth round of the 2008 draft by the Nationals out of Blinn (TX) Junior College...Pitched solely in relief in college, but converted to a starter for the GCL Nationals...Had a 2.3:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 2009...Faced the Hillcats four times this season...Gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits in two and two-thirds innings pitched in loss on May 22...Gave up six runs, all earned, on six hits, in four innings pitched in loss on May 28...Gave up seven runs in just one and two-thirds innings pitched on July 11...Took loss on July 17, giving up two runs on six hits in six innings pitched...Currently 9-10 with a 4.54 ERA...
