Guilmet, Holbert Net Year End Awards
September 1, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston Indians second year manager Aaron Holbert has been voted the Carolina League Manager of the year in 2011. It is the first time a Kinston skipper has taken the honor since Mike Sarbaugh won the 2007 award. In addition, pitcher Preston Guilmet has been named to the year end All-Star team as the league's best relief pitcher.
In his fourth season managing for a Cleveland Indians affiliate, Holbert's K-Tribe is tied for first place in the Carolina League Southern Division with six games remaining in the regular season. The 2011 K-Tribe is 30-14 in one run games and has 33 come from behind wins. In 2010, Holbert led Kinston to the postseason with a 73-67 record. After retiring as a player in 2005, Holbert made his coaching debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2006. Kinston's skipper joined Cleveland's system in 2008 with the Lake County Captains, guiding the team to the South Atlantic League finals.
K-Tribe closer Preston Guilmet is the Carolina League year-end All-Star Team Relief Pitcher. The University of Arizona product leads the Carolina League with 34 saves. Guilmet (1-1, 1.60) also leads the CL with 46 games finished. The California native has converted 34 of 35 save opportunities.
Voting for the honorary year end All-Star team was done by league managers, general managers and media.
Kinston has just two regular season games remaining at Historic Grainger Stadium this season. The K-Tribe hosts Frederick at 6:30 pm both nights. To purchase tickets, visit us online at www.kinstonindians.com or call the front office at 252-527-0498.
